BORO'S squad numbers have been revealed with the all important No 1 shirt - the one that is the biggest conunderum of the close season - left blank. That should stop all the speculation. Maybe they should ask for a special Premier League dispensation to use a bloody big questionmark.

CATT out of bag? The gaffer has admitted today that there has been a lot on interest in taking Boro's tenacious midfield terrier, England Under-21 regular and tough-tackling, all action free-kick conceding machine Lee Cattermole on loan and one "tentative" bid from Wigan.

While it may be attractive money for a benchwarmer and a healthy profit from yet another graduate from the much trumpeted Boro academy, does it leave the midfield light? And what signals does it send out to the rest of the youigsters who hope to see their own ambitions realised at Boro?

THE EXIT of George Boateng is a massive, massive blow. General George is almost irreplaceable. True, his mono-paced on the pitch performances may have faded in recent years - but in front of a microphone he still oozes star quality.

EMNES has signed! Digard has joined him! The great Boro turn to youth has started in earnest with two signings within 24 hours that offer the prospect of VFM pace, power and hunger to liven up the plodding mono-paced midfield.
