A Night For Heroes

Posted by on April 6, 2006 10:43 AM |

ARE YOU ready for the dramatic tension of penalties? I think I would spontaneously combust.

But that is exactly what I expect: extra time and penalties - and typical Boro to either do it in the hardest way possible or to leave us heartbroken and surrounded by the debris of shattered dreams.

It will be a night for heroes. A night of nerve-shredding, adrenaline splashed emotion that will require nerves of steel as much as ability and application on and off of the pitch.

It will be a night that will go down in Teesside terrace legend. If Boro can turn around this deficit and march on to European glory this will be seen as a defining moment. Those players who get on the scoresheet tonight would be idolised forever and from Redcar to Ragworth we can expect a baby boom of improbably monikered Aiyegbenis, Jerrels, Fabios and Ugos.

But if we lose this could well be our last game in Europe for years to come. It could yet be a watershed moment of a different kind and we may be looking back with regret and wondering what might have been. The stakes are high.

Ultimately it is down to our heroes on the pitch. They are the ones who will determine our mental and emotional well-being in the foreseeable future. All we can do is shout and scream hysterically and hope for the best. We must give it our best shot too.

COME ON BORO

*I'm taking the laptop to the Riverside tonight so expect an impassioned stream of consciousness, highly partisan observations and a mosaic of meanderings live and direct from kick-off onwards.
